Bret Victor, beast of burden -

Luminarie De Cagna, cathedral-like structure made of over 55,000 lights. You dig?
I first encountered 955 Dreams about a year ago when I came across a magical iPad app called The History of Jazz. When I sat down with co-founder Kiran Bellubbi to talk about the app for a TechCrunch story, it was immediately apparent that his vision extended far beyond just one beautiful app.
I kicked off my story with something he said to me: “The shallow experience for a user has to be very interesting. The deep experiences have to be profound.” In the app-crazy world we live in, it’s not uncommon to hear developers attempt to get philosophical. But with Bellubbi, I totally bought it.
And my instinct about Bellubbi and co-founder T.J. Zark proved correct. They followed up The History of Jazz with the equally brilliant On The Way To Woodstock. Both apps got Apple’s seal of approval in the form of App of the Week accolades.
With the looming price increase, a 25% jump on all Kodak products, there were several people in Yodobashi Camera tonight stocking up now to save money later. I chatted with Shinya Arimoto about this earlier in the day- he suggested to offset the increase by shooting 25% less- instead of taking four shots of something only take three. He laughed and said that this is probably impossible though. Arimoto shoots a lot of Kodak film (T-Max) and like me uses Kodak HC-110 to develop his negs. Unlike me however, he orders his 20 bottles at a time.)
Keep in mind the people in the image above are not ”hoarding” out of fear that all Kodak films will disappear tomorrow. Kodak says that their film business is profitable. Let’s hope it stays that way.
